For the first time since 2016, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Servies (USCIS) published a final rule which will present adjustments to certain immigration and naturalization benefit request fees. After a comprehensive fee review, as required by law, USCIS is implementing new processes and programs which aim to uphold fairness, integrity, and respect to all those they serve. Included in these new processes and programs will be a better sense of customer service and backlog reduction.
Some new adjustments to look out for are:
- more fee exemptions for Special Immigration Juveniles (SIJ), as well as victims of human trafficking, crime, and domestic violence;
- special fee discounts for nonprofit organizations and small business employers;
- half-price Employment Authorization Document applications for adjustment of status applicants and reduced fees for adjustment of status applicants under the age of 14 in certain situations;
- eligibility for a 50% fee reduction for naturalization applicants, available to those individuals that can demonstrate a household income between 150-400% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines;
- a standard $50 discount for online filers.
The new fees under the final rule go into effect April 1, 2024.
